If you’d asked me 5 years ago what I wanted to be, I would have told you that I wanted to be a doctor, but after a disastrous experience with my Chemistry AS Level teacher, I gave up that idea and decided to follow my mother’s footsteps and study English at university.
It turns out this was far more my natural calling.
Now I come to think of it, when most girls my age were dreaming of becoming a pop princess or a vet, I was creating stories with illustrations, believing that one day I would become an author. Books have always been a huge part of my life: I would read almost every day, or at least, my dad would read to me most evenings and I have a huge amount of nostalgia for those days where the characters of Katy (What Katy Did) or Sara (A Little Princess), became my fictional idols.
I have never written a blog before but having jumped on the Twitter and Facebook bandwagon, I felt it was about time to give my writing skills a bit more exercise. Blogs are a brilliant tool: they help those who are researching their favourite topic, those who want to write about their hobby and those who want to advertise their specialised products to a targeted readership. It is a symbiotic relationship I have long appreciated but never participated in. So, enough. Here is my new year’s resolution of 2012: to create an interesting, readable blog for those who love books as much as me.
